Winter Marathon 2024 – 36th edition

One of the longest and most exciting editions ever, with 520 km of racing, 16 hours of driving, 15 Dolomite passes, 65 timed trials and 9 average speed trials

Edoardo Bellini and Roberto Tiberti won the Winter Marathon 2024.

The young Franciacorta Motori crew, driving the same 1937 Fiat 508 C with which they won in 2021 and 2022, held on to the lead they had taken after Thursday’s first stage and triumphed during the night in Madonna di Campiglio, where they crossed the finish line in Piazza Righi with a wide margin over their closest rivals, both driving 1938 Fiat 508 Cs: Guido Barcella and Ombretta Ghidotti, last year’s winners, who climbed back up the standings from seventh to second place after a poor first stage, and Fabio Salvinelli and Andrea Costa, who finished third after spending a long time in second place.

The organisers were satisfied with the overall progress of the race, which concluded without issues or accidents thanks to the assistance of the service staff along the entire route, and was characterised by extreme cold, with temperatures dropping as low as -15°C on the Sella and Gardena passes, which, together with the Pordoi Pass, are always among the most appreciated and photographed points of the event.

First among the all-foreign crews were the British Edoardo Ottochian and George Drayson in a 1960 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk I, while among the teams victory went to Franciacorta Motori, ahead respectively of Brescia Corse and Emmebi 70; top spot in the under-30 classification went to the Barcella-Rossoni crew, sixth overall in a 1963 Porsche 356 C Coupé, while the first female crew was Laura Bandera and Chiara Guindani in a 1971 Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S. First in the special Average Speed Trials classification was the Sardinian crew Virdis-Giordo in a 1954 Porsche 356 Coupé.

An impressive 31st place overall for SKY Sport F1 personality Davide Valsecchi, driving a 1968 Lancia Fulvia Coupé Rallye 1.3 S and navigated by Luca Canali, qualifying for the first time for the frozen lake trial scheduled in the afternoon. Starting from 1:15 pm, the Sparco Trophy, reserved for the classified all-foreign crews, and following that, the Veriwatch Trophy, reserved for the top 32 crews classified in the race, whose winner will receive two watches from the Otopus collection.
